Community is connection and connection is essential to our survival. Community to me is being a part of a group of people that are going to help celebrate the joys in life but also help you carry the weight of your world when it’s too heavy to carry on your own.
Most people who have crossed my path will most likely have heard me say “Asking for help is hard but staying where you are is also hard”. Choose the hard that is going to serve you best.
Family Law Advocacy Project
My passion to change family law comes from my own personal experience. I was in a high-conflict custody battle that started in 2009 and lasted for a decade. It should not be considered “high conflict” when there is abuse present, however our courts are not educated enough on family violence to shift that language. This is something that I am passionate about bringing awareness and change to in the reform of our family court systems. I have learned over some time that my case is not unique and so many women and children worldwide are experiencing similar struggles with family courts.
I tell my story as I hold my head and integrity high. I will not stop fighting for change and I will work to continue bringing awareness to this tragedy. Intimate Partner Violence needs to be declared an epidemic. Saskatchewan alone has over double the National average of IPV police reported cases. Many women do not report so we know stats are much higher. This is alarming.
Women and children have an inherent right to be protected, our family law systems need to do better.
Love My Mind
I have been a mental health partner with Love My Mind since the initiative was born in 2019.
The Love My Mind non-profit initiative was founded by the Anderson family in memory of Mark Anderson, who struggled for years with addiction and the darkness of depression. Mark took his own life in November of 2018 and his family was left wondering what they could have done differently.
During the grieving period, Mark’s family quickly recognized a desperate need for awareness, connection and support surrounding mental health, addiction and suicide.
And so began Love My Mind.
